Have a question? Take a look below to see if we already have an answer for you.
I have a great idea for a website! Will you help me design it and share in the profits?
We’re creative technicians, not investors. We’ll make your website for an hourly fee, but the profits are all yours!
What is web hosting and why can’t I do it myself?
The service that stores your website files and serves your website is your host. Web Developers Studio walks you through the process of purchasing your OWN host. You own all the sign in credentials (including passwords) so that you’re not depending on anyone except yourself.
- A static website is just a bunch of files and images. If we create one of those for you, there’s not much to do (except pay the hosting service’s bills), so you can do it yourself!
- A site builder, like Squarespace or Weebly, is also owned by you.
- The full-blown, top-of-the-line content management system, WordPress, is more complicated. We recommend you hire us to regularly keep the site up-to-date and safe.
In every case, you share your hosting passwords with us for as long as you think we’re doing a good job.
I don’t want to buy a huge website. Can you do something simple?
Our smaller products will be enough for your clients to respect your online presence, without breaking the bank. Check out the Quick Site option on our price page.
Can I update my website myself?
Yep! We can set you up with a content management system that is easy to learn and use. Or we can update your site for you whenever you like.
What is Search Engine Optimization and why do I need it?
Search engine optimization, or SEO, is coding techniques that make your website show up high on the results page when your potential clients use a search engine to find a business like yours. Augmented by an effective Social Media and or Marketing campaign, your website needs to elbow above your competition.
Years ago, people would open the yellow pages and pick the first name under the service listing they wanted. We saw companies called “Aardvark Insurance” or “Aaron’s Plumbing” (owned by Jim). But now making the top of the list isn’t as simple as knowing the alphabet. Search engines are dynamic, so staying competitive requires constant evaluation and application of the latest thinking.
You need SEO. Without it, your website will languish in an unseen corner of the Internet, and your potential clients will choose service providers who are easier to find.
Web Developers Studio uses Google’s own tools to figure out where your potential clients expect you to be, and we make sure your website is waiting for them. Our techniques are always “white-hat”. We’re good kids and play straight. Provide us with great content for your niche and we’ll lay it out so the search engines find it.
I already have a website, but it could use a touch-up.
We can help. We’ll check out your current site and offer tips about what it’s missing, or what current trends might help revitalize it. Of course, we can do the revitalization too, but there’s no obligation with our critique services.
How do I keep the billing as low as possible?
After our free initial consultation, prepare answers to our questions as specifically as possible.
Clients who don’t have billing issues are happy to spend hours with us, carefully choosing each photo, mulling over the wording of the pitch – and a constant attention to detail that does give great results.
But for the client who does worry about billing, we ask you to give us a good amount of content that you accumulate partially on your own. We’re happy to spend time with you, but minimizing that time with thorough preparations will prevent your bill from creeping up.
Another way to cut costs is to visit our office while we design your site. We like “cooking in our own kitchen,” and our clients are always invited. You can watch us design right there to give us the most direct instruction possible, and at the same time we’ll show you how to use your website. Visiting us cuts billing because it saves us from needing to write time-consuming emails asking about the specifics of what we’re building for you.
We can also, of course, “visit” over the phone or via video conferencing with screen-to-screen capabilities, but the point is to make communication quick and easy.
